Calm

I had seen these kind of shots over the years and thought it required specialised equipment to take them and would never be able to.

Read up on it a bit – turns out all you need is the kitchen sink, a steady tripod, flash, imagination and TONS of patience to get the right shot

    Perfect!

  • Vikram Franklin replied

Thanks Shelly – If you look closely you can see a reflection of the faucet in the drop. I’m now trying to get things to reflect on purpose in the drop – shotting now, will post tomorrow.

I could see a reflection but didn’t put two and two together that it was the faucet. Cool! I really want to play around with this idea as well. Good luck shooting today. Can’t wait untill tomorrow!

Hey, Vikram! I thought I added you to my watch list a few days ago, so I missed you uploading this drop series. This one’s AWESOME! Great work… You’re on my list now…

Fantastic work! Thanks for the details, maybe I will try this sometime. Congrats on your feature!

  • Vikram Franklin replied

Thanks Rachel – do try it, the results are great (though the patience required is trying).

Great result, I think every photographer worth there salt should attempt something like this. I still intend to try it myself. I have attempted catching thawing snow drops, with mediocre results. Today might be that day…

  • Vikram Franklin replied

LOL – yeah – this, smoke-art and splash shots – definitely eye-candy to try at some point!
    Thanks for the great comment!

What a fantastic photo; wonder how many shots you took before this one happened! Thanks for sharing some tips; I also wondered how in the world….Yours is beautiful! I’m going to give it a try; don’t think I can get a perfect drop like yours but maybe I can get something .

  • Vikram Franklin replied

Thanks so much – a LOT of pics – there is a more complicated way of getting an infra-red beam and the drop breaking the beam and triggering the camera – but then I’ve seen amazing results with the hand eye coordination thing as well.
