This is a 45 Mega pixel image – it will look best as a really BIG print.
A typical scene in the centre of Amsterdam. It is early afternoon on an April day of sunshine and showers.
I didn’t have much time in Amsterdam on my recent trip to The Netherlands. This was the only panorama I shot on that part of the trip.
We were eating lunch in an excellent vegetarian restaurant just by this bridge. It is called De Bolhoed and I can heartily recommend it. If you walked over this bridge coming from the direction of Central Station it would be on your left.
While they were making the dessert I popped out and shot this panorama on the bridge that leads from Prinsenstraat to Prinsen Gracht.
In the minute or so that it took me to shoot the images for the panorama all manner of cyclists and pedestrians passed back and forth over the bridge. I captured only a few of them in this panorama.
You might also spot a tourist cruiser approaching the bridge along the canal.
History
Method
This full 360° high dynamic range panorama was created by combining 33 separate photographs, at 45° intervals, covering every angle and with bracketed exposures.
Those source images were shot in Raw mode on a Canon EOS 5D with a 16mm Zenitar Manual Focus fisheye lens mounted via an EOS adapter. They were shot in groups of three bracketed exposures (from -2 stops to +2 stops).
They were then stitched and blended together using a program called Hugin, which in turn invoked a program called Enfuse to create the High Dynamic Range effect.
The quirks and flaws, which in this case (because of the many moving people and vehicles) were many, were corrected by hand in Photoshop.

Agnes,
Thank you. Yes Amsterdam is one of my favourite places. The visit on which this was shot was just one day and this was shot on one of the few sunny breaks in the showers.
This photograph is having a pretty busy first 24 hours on RedBubble – 24 views, 3 favourites, a feature and a request to use it as the poster image in a challenge!
