Hellebores are prized by those who cultivate them, because they produce some of the earliest and most delicate blooms of the gardening year.
Despite its common name “Christmas Rose” the helebore is not a member of the rose family.
Most helebores seem like rather shy plants, typically with their head modestly tilted towards the ground.
This one has been picked and floated in a bowl of water, a method that allows the delicate petals and stamens to be appreciated. It is less than an inch in diameter.
