This Sea Bindweed was wrapped around the post that held the life belt on a beach on Muckross Head in South West Donegal, Ireland.
Sea Bindweed is a close cousin of the (similarly named) weed so disliked by urban gardeners. Like the garden weed it is a low-growing perennial with creeping underground stems and trumpet shaped flowers.
The sea variety has pink rather than white flowers. This particular specimen has very pale pink petals. In other places I have seen deeper pink and even red flowers on sea bindweed.
Its botanical name is: “Calystegia Soldanella”.
