The primrose is the classic Irish spring wildflower of woodlands and other places of dappled shade.

This one was photographed on a tuft of grass in the middle of a stream in Drumlamph Wood, County Derry.

Each pale yellow primrose flower has its own leafless hairy stem. The common name literally means “first rose” and indeed the primrose flowers appear early in Spring before most of the trees around it are in leaf.

Its botanical name is: “Primula vulgaris”.

This is part of my new postcard range. You can follow on to another gorgeous Very Ireland Post card .

I’m al loving your Irish wildflowers George :-))

  • Vickie, Thank you. Most of my photographic efforts these days go on my panoramic landscapes Often as I am getting to somewhere, rural, interesting and remote to shoot a panorama I will find myself walking past the local flora. I realised recently that I had probably photographed enough wild flowers for a calendar. So I gathered them together with that in mind. George
