This type of wild fuchsia is quite common in the hedgerows in the West of Ireland, particularly in coastal regions where the winters are milder. Often it will produce these gorgeous red blooms throughout the summer from June until September.

They are a delight to visitors and to the locals and certainly the bees love them.

This one was photographed in the Loch Na Fooey valley on the border between County Mayo and County Galway.

Botanical name: ”Fuchsia magellanica“.
Fuchsia originated in Chile and was introduced to Europe in about 1790. It is widely regarded as having naturalized itself in Ireland.

This is part of my new postcard range. You can follow on to another gorgeous Very Ireland Post card .
