This 360° panoramic image was shot on Clooney Terrace in The Waterside area of Derry on a bright spring day in early May 2009.
It was taken outside the Church of Ireland Church known as “All Saints Clooney”. Many of the parishioners would refer to the city as Londonderry, reflecting the City’s role in the history of the “Plantation of Ulster”.
The tripod was positioned at the top of the steps that lead down to Bonds Hill.
This panorama was created by combining 27 separate digital photographs covering every angle and with bracketed exposures. Hence the detail has been captured both in the brightest areas of the sky and in the shadows of the buildings.
The source images were shot on a Canon EOS 5D with a 16mm fisheye lens.
There is another panorama here of Clooney terrace
. It was assembled from the same set of original shots. They differ only in the final rendering via Stereographic projection. I think that they make an interesting pair.
Because of the way that it was created this is a <b>very</b> high resolution image (the equivalent of about 40-megapixels). It is capable of delivering very fine detail even when printed at massive sizes.
This will look great using the maximum framed print size here on Red Bubble – 16 inch print in a frame about 22 inches square. Or you could go for their Poster-print service at about 33 inches, and get that framed elsewhere.
I have written a short journal entry introducing the method by which these panoramas are created, it is called:
“Creating a Stereographic Panorama – the Basic Idea”
This panorama was uploaded to Redbubble on 10th March 2010 by 1st April it had been viewed over 100 times. On 11the Sept 2010 it was featured in the RedBubble group The World as We See It
On 28th January 2011 it had been viewed 500 times.
I have three collections here of stereographic panoramas like this one, they are panoramas of:
| Donegal | Derry |
| |
| The Aran Islands | |

Great stuff – I love the effects your technique produces.
Adam, Thanks. Yes it is a powerful technique. As I said on my profile, one of the things I like about it is that I am still learning how to apply it. If the essence of photography is where you point the camera – the essence of this sort of panorama is where you stand the tripod!
What a funny little planet here :)
brilliant work George:)
many thanks from
