CD Cover

  1. April 2015 Local musician Eamon Friel has just released a new CD-single called “Brave New World”. I am delighted that he used this Ness Glen image as the cover photograph.
At the time of writing this, the physical CD has been released and is available in good local record shops like Cool Discs but it has not yet appeared on iTunes It will find its way there shortly.

The images below are clickable and will take you to the iTunes page with Eamon’s music:

This 360° panorama was shot at the bottom of a deep wooded gully in Ness Woods, County Derry, Ireland. The tripod was standing on a moss covered ledge just above the river that carved the gully through the rock.

I shot this image as a moment of calm consolation, having given up on trying to reach the waterfall just along the river – and to put off the moment when I would have to scramble back up the near-vertical muddy bank with camera and tripod on my back!

Method

  1. It was created by combining 24 separate photographs, covering every possible angle and with exposure bracketing (+ and – 2-stops). Hence there is detail in the blue sky high above us and in the darkest corners beneath the trees.

The source Images were shot on a Canon EOS 5D DSLR with a 16mm fisheye lens and stitched and blended together using Hugin (a free open source program) and Hugin in turn invoked Enfused to create the HDR effect by combining the exposures.

I have written a short journal entry introducing the method by which these panoramas are created, it is called:
“Creating a Stereographic Panorama – the Basic Idea”

Sales

  1. It has had a total of 19 sales here, five of them as a card, four as a duvet! It has also sold as a print, a cushion cover, phone cover and leggings. It has always been a good seller when I have had physical exhibitions. The best was as a 30″x30″ block mounted print. It was used as the programme illustration for a play performed by Mephisto Theatre Company and in Spring 2015 it was used as the cover photograph of Eamon Friel’s CD Brave New World

At a craft fair on 4th December 2010 it was again my best selling image – selling four copies two on canvas and two block-mounted on MDF and of course it was in my best selling calendar!
