This 360° panorama was shot at the bottom of a deep wooded gully in Ness Woods, County Derry, Ireland. The tripod was standing on a moss covered ledge just above the river that carved the gully through the rock.
I shot this image as a moment of calm consolation, having given up on trying to reach the waterfall just along the river – and to put off the moment when I would have to scramble back up the near-vertical muddy bank with camera and tripod on my back!
It has been featured by eighteen Redbubble groups:

Method
It was created by combining 24 separate photographs, covering every possible angle and with exposure bracketing (+ and – 2-stops). Hence there is detail in the blue sky high above us and in the darkest corners beneath the trees.
The source Images were shot on a Canon EOS 5D DSLR with a 16mm fisheye lens and stitched and blended together using Hugin (a free open source program) and Hugin in turn invoked Enfused to create the HDR effect by combining the exposures.
I have written a short journal entry introducing the method by which these panoramas are created, it is called:
“Creating a Stereographic Panorama – the Basic Idea”
History of this Image on RedBubblle
At a craft fair on 4th December 2010 it was again my best selling image – selling four copies two on canvas and two block-mounted on MDF and of course it was in my best selling calendar!
I have three collections here of stereographic panoramas like this one, they are panoramas of:

Comments
An instant favorite ;o)
What you are doing here, and doing very well I might add, has so many possibilities… My hat is off to you.
Mark, Thanks for the kind words. Yes I agree it is a powerful technique. I am slowly coming to understand the associated aesthetics in which “finding the place to stand” is all important!

I can’t even imagine the difficulties, but you are surmounting all of them! Keep it up!
Interesting Image, George!! I feel like I am a rabbit peeking out from from my hole in the ground into the peaceful wilderness!!
Carolyn, Thank you for the kind words – yes This one has always been a favourite in physical exhibitions and other people have mentioned the “rabbit’s-eye-view” effect. :-)
