A Virtual Reality version of this panorama is available on the World Wide Panorama project website. It was shot as part of the WWP Decade event. It is best viewed in Full Screen version.

This panorama was shot in the Derry on Shipquay Street, outside the Richmond Centre shopping complex. We are in the centre of Derry’s historic walled city. This panorama was shot on a sunny Sunday afternoon in the Spring of 2014. We are looking into the “mouth” of the shopping centre – towards two o’clock if the image was a clock face.

The Guildhall clock tower is visible at the bottom of the hill – towards 11:00 o’clock. We would go through Shipquay Gate, in the city walls, to reach it. Looking up the hill – towards five o’clock – we glimpse the central “diamond” of the walled city – beyond it is Bishop Gate. If we went straight across Shiquay Street from the shopping centre we would be going along Castle Street towards Castle Gate, in the city walls.

Photographic and Technical Details
This high dynamic range ( HDR ) panorama was created by combining 36 separate digital photographs. The source images for this panorama were shot in Raw mode on a Canon EOS 5d Mk ii with a 15mm Canon Full Frame Fisheye

The 36 separate images were shot in groups of bracketed (1/30 : 1/125 : 1/500 all at f16) exposures at 60° intervals. Extra shots were included to allow for the moving people. They were all stitched and blended together using Hugin an open source panorama tool. Hugin in turn invoked Enblend to smooth the seams and Enfuse to create the High Dynamic Range effect.

As often happens when people move around while the constituent images of a panorama are being shot, there are multiple instances of some individuals in the final panorama. In this case there are at least three instances of Owen – the man in the blue bib collecting on behalf of Foyle Hospice
