Bird house

Windsor and Newton Cotman paper, 300gsm, cold pressed, NOT, 40.6×30.5cm

This is a pretty Bird house in Clliveden, the National Trust place. I have started painting it there, on the spot and finished at home, as 4 hours allocated to it was not enough for me :-)

They have beautifull flower beds there at this time of the year.

Katja, this is well done. it is difficult to paint outdoors and I find I have to finish them off at home. The U.S. have a lot of bird houses as well but this one looks quite tall.

    Hi Gloria

Thank you for your nice comments. This was kind of a gate-house (or guard house – you can see arrow slits) with a bird house on top. I think it was built in 17 century and has been very well maintained. It was a beautifull day, but then some children started running around and out of about 10 people painting there they took particular liking to me, hovering over the painting and asking questions every 10 minutes, so I had to pack up :-)

This is really lovely work. I can empathise with your difficulties painting ‘on site’ and the distractions that can occur! You have a very nice watercolour technique. Congratulations on the feature.
