The Surge
This is a closer view of the storm at our pier in Holland Michigan. Just after this happened I received a big splash with the wind.. I got wet and the camera got a bath.. I had a big paper towel to wipe it off and pull out the battery.. No problems .. Gads.. Its hard to imagine how much of a water surge is going on.. But let me say that the pier has about 8-10 ft of clearance from the walking area of the pier until it hits the water.. None of my friends would go out there to help with the perspective figure that.. Hope you enjoy.. This is the first upload not using dial up.. It would take about an hour to do so.. LOL..
Chuck..
Oh Yes It’s Large

You’ve got to admire & respect the power of nature Chuck, this is an excellent shot of that power & majesty. One wee concern; people get washed away in situations like this!!
Be careful!!
velveteagle replied
Oh yes.. 14 ft plus waves.. So much power.. I am a excellent swimmer but I fear I would lose this battle of nature.. So exciting for the mind and heart.. Thanks Robin..

I think you have captured the power really well in this storm. I love this image.
velveteagle replied
Its my favorite of the group. The walking part of the pier is as a norm 8-10 ft above the water line.. That will give you an ideal of the power of the surge.. Thanks Paula..

G’day CHUCK!
I am really impressed by this wonderful moody, stormy, powerful scene.
The solidarity of the lighthouse against the raging sea and the miniscule size and power of the seagull battling the wind has me waxing lyrical here.
You have done a great job with this one and I am so glad to read that your camera has survived its dousing, unlike my poor Milday Fuji under similar circumstances.

Wow….what a fabulous capture!! I understand when you say it is hard to imagine the power of the surge…I’m in Muskegon and have taken many shots of the waves coming in off the lake….holy cow! Sometimes it is frighteningly beautiful…just like this shot! Glad you didn’t hurt your equipment….but I’d sure look into more supportive friends!! LOL! Great work!
