APARTMENT ONE
I HOPE THAT THIS GROUP OF WORK HAS AN AFFECT ON ANYONE THAT HAS LOST ANYONE LOVED. ON OCTOBER 4, MY BROTHER DAVID ALEN, WAS FOUND DEAD IN HIS APARTMENT. DAVID WAS 45 YEARS YOUNG, AND HAD FOUGHT AIDS FOR 19 YEARS. DAVID WAS BEAUTIFUL, BRILLIANT, ACADEMIC AND MOST OF ALL SO VERY HUMAN. DAVID WAS GAY. WHY DOES THIS EVEN NEED TO BE MENTIONED. MY PHOTOGRAPHS AND WORDS, I CAN ONLY HOPE WILL TRY TO EXPLAIN. IT IS 2007, I BELIEVE, ISN’T IT. KNOW THIS MY BROTHER WAS LOVED, AND ALWAYS WILL BE. DAVID WAS GAY. THIS IS ALL ABOUT HUMANITY, AND WHERE CAN IT BE FOUND.

I joined this group only yesterday & my first photo happened to fall amongst these photos of your brothers apartment. They gave me goosebumps, as i stood in your shoes. A moving set of photos – though a very sad story. Good luck with your own journey from here, & so sorry for your loss.

thank you again mandusk your thoughts are more respected and appreciated than I can begin to express. Thank you for helping me on David’s (and my) search for basic humanity. IN THE CITY OF CHICAGO, A FULL AUTOPSY IS PERFORMED ON ANY PERSON WHOM DIES OF “UN-NATURAL” CAUSES. ANY PERSON. UNLESS YOU HAVE HIV OR AIDS. THEN YOU MUST REQUEST A “FULL” AUTOPSY. AFTER THE REQUEST IS MADE, THE BODY IS TAKEN TO A DIFFERENT FACILITY, AND FINALLY YOU BECOME A REGULAR 45 YEAR OLD DEAD BROTHER. HUMANITY

Beautiful tribute to your brother! I just went through the whole series and I’m moved by your pain and your love and respect for your brother. It’s unfortunate that our country can’t say “aids” and insure those that need it. I live in Chicago too and see the fear of the unknown within so many subjects that we need to address for humanity.

It is really great that this image has been featured today. I hope more people will come to look and leave enlightened (if just a little).

I have a good idea what you are going through. My gay brother, David, aged 50.Whose rotting corpse was found in his Melbourne flat. No amount of enquiry could establish the cause of death.
I have no closure but my heart sings a similar song.
Peace.
