There is so much action, depth and rich detail in this beautiful work of art Van. Your use of warm light and earth colours are fantastic. The expressive look of the horses in frantic motion surrounded by fear is astonishing. It is a deeply moving piece as they are looking in all directions kicking up the dust in their attempts to escape the threats. ‘Ae! And the one is hit with the arrows, his legs splayed in midair as he is falling!! It is so realistic it breaks my heart!

Horrible pic or not , It’s really a great painting. Full marks for your faithfulness and passion for the great masters.

I don’t think I’ve seen such a long list of comments Van. And no wonder when you produce such wonderful works of art as this.

I realized I missed commenting on this one but the list of comments is so long I have forgotten what I wanted to say now. I think everyone has already said it … You know, Van, the gifts we have been given are no small thing and I think you do realize how gifted you are. You don’t have to do anything but put it out there for all of us to see. One day I think it would be great if you wrote a journal telling us what it is like … the process … when you paint or sketch. Where do you start? How it progresses and what you SEE when you are doing it and how you FEEL when you are creating. What a tremedous sense of satisfaction you must get throughout the entire process. I love to sketch … and I know how it feels to me …BUT … the difference is that I know I do not have the talent to create as I wish I could … but you do! I am thankful that there are people like you in this world … One thing I would like to know honestly from you right now is …. do you consider what you do as “difficult” or does it just come easy to you?

Yeah, again, a masterful piece, Van. I can hear horses hooves hitting pounderously on the earth, horses’ sounds of squealing whinnies, deepening chortles, stagecoach wheels churning, clattering at high speed, dust flying, young Native Americans hooting, yelping, stagecoach drivers, some riding shotgun, whistling, loudly yipping, snapping their whips, and with shouts of threat that they hope belie the fear they feel as they try to hold the team steady. Perhaps they can fend off the foe…...Can you tell? I am so there. Great, great piece, Van.
