‘BUTTERFLY BLUE’ PINCUSHION PLANT
Best viewed large.
The ‘Butterfly Blue’ Pincushion plant is a beautiful compact perennial which will grow 12"-15" in average, well-drained soil, in full sun. Butterflies love the Pincushion, which tolerates partial shade, particularly in the hot summer climates of the deep South. However, for best growing success, this perennial prefers light soils with neutral pH.
The ‘Butterfly Blue’ Pincushion plant blooms in the Spring from late April until the first frost. Striking flowers (2" diameter) feature an outer ring of frilly, flat, lavender-blue petals and a paler domed center cushion.
The center cushion, a shade lighter than the flowers it produces, develops protruding stamens that resemble pins in a pincushion. ‘Butterfly Blue’ Pincushions are excellent plants for grouping in border fronts and rock gardens, and can be used as a brilliant edging.
These attractive ‘Butterfly Blues’ are even more stunning when combined with the pink-flowered companion plant ‘Pink Mist’ Pincushion. Flowers bloom singly on stiff stems that have grayish-green basal leaves. Remove spent flowers to encourage additional blooms.
This macro shot was captured with my Canon EOS 40 D camera, with use of my Canon – 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens.
“BUTTERFLY BLUE” was awarded the prestigious title of “PERENNIAL PLANT OF THE YEAR 2000” by the noted PERENNIAL PLANT ASSOCIATION

Gorgeous image Van, well done.
Thank you Steve for your fabulous comments!! I think the color of this flower is closer to the “lavendar-blue” it is supposed to be, but experts still call it “BUTTERFLY BLUE.”xxx
