SNOWSTORM by Van Coleman

Best viewed large.

A major snowstorm swept into my area overnight here in northeastern Kentucky, and so far I have about 6 inches of snow on the ground. It looks like a Winter Wonderland outside!
So far the freezing rain is still south of me headed east, but it is supposed to push up into my area by early afternoon. If that happens then we will have a real mess here with ice on top of all this snow!
All the local schools have shut down today, as well as our local Community College. The State Police were on tv early this morning telling motorists not to get on the roads unless they absolutely have to. We are expecting the ice to come next, and then 2-4 more inches of snow to fall on top of that later this evening and overnight. Temperatures are presently sitting at a chilly 25 degrees.
This is our second significant snowfall this Winter, and areas in higher elevations woke up to over a foot of snow!

I took this photo this morning, then added a few lighting and layering effects in Photoshop. I later experimented with the Orton effect until I reached the opacity and image I desired.

  • Hey Jason, you sure did; we are only a few miles apart!! I just hope the ice stays south of us or we will all be in for some treacherous roadways later this evening and tomorrow!!xx

If this snowstorm is headed towards you, just make sure you are stocked up with everything you need; this system is supposed to be a “slow-mover,” as we are supposed to get more ice and snow this evening and overnight!!

Well done Van you are very clever. With all that snow you should get some great images. I think the black and white works well with snow scenes.

  • Thank you Terry; we had a lot of snow but a lot of ice as well! My state was declared a state of emergency here in Kentucky and over 80,000 people in my state alone were without power. I believe the numbers have climbed even higher since I saw the last UPDATE on tv!!xx
