i’m not saying i wouldn’t donate (particularly to my own family & friends at this stage of my life) or that i think organ donation isn’t pertinent or worthy but i think this is sneaky maneuver, if it gets through.

it’s my body & my choice (just as it’s your body & your choice) & external opinions are not warranted.
we are all individuals with our own thoughts & feelings on the matter. respect.

i consider myself to be creatively versatile.

areas i dabble in … photography, digital art, drawing, manipulations, writing, etc.

I don’t think anyone could argue with you on this. Many would come along and say how important donorship is and how obvious and easy the choice was for them… but that’s the key isn’t it !!! they got to choose.

  • yes. thank you.

one of the other arguments is that the problem with the current system is that many people who would choose to donate are just not doing anything about it. This is a good point, but hardly one to merit removal of freedom.

Definitely a sneaky way of doing something like this. How much publicity will the bill get? will it be one of these ones that go through after everyone has gone home for the night? How much news paper action will it see? Will the public know that the system has changed? so many questions.
    Our Bodies…Our choice

  • damn good point, thus sneaky! ;)

Well said missus, it should always be personal choice. Granted donorship is important and should happen more often, but it shouldn’t be made compulsory. For some people it’s just unacceptable. I hear the powers that be are thinking about doing compulsory donorship in the UK, hmmm. For me personally, they can have all my bits and pieces. I don’t care. I’ll be dead ;D

  • compulsory is just fucking rude!!!!! grrrr. what about respect for religion LOL some ppl have their own thoughts on the treatment of their bodies in death so that won’t work! it should still be entirely person, not up to big brother. i love the way they forget to tell the public in general just how tricky it is to actually have the right donor even if you are one when it come to harvesting, it’s almost like a fucking conspiracy. so many things have to be right at the moment of death of the donor to make harvesting even possible! grrr.

So basically, there was no opt out option before? Meaning that everyone who’s died before this law gets passed was automatically an organ donor even if it wasn’t their wish?
    That definitely doesn’t seem right….

In the states, we already have the law that it’s every citizens right to choose. When you get your ID/Driver’s License they put a little heart symbol on it if you want to be an organ donor and it’s completely optional.

  • at the moment it’s the ‘opt in’ to be a donor & it goes on your drivers licence. so now they are planning to flip it round (if it gets passed) so that sneakily everyone will be a donor unless they remember to ‘opt out’. very underhanded really. but it is not yet passed. i hope it doesn’t get through.
