My Irish friend Greg

3 days, March 14 2006-March 17, 2006, that is all the time we had. We spent most of it drinking and talking about anything we could. Then after our brief encounter he left this life. He was a sweet passionate soul with a very unique take on living and what it meant to have lived. He also did some fantastic photos that were never made public: pictures he took in Ireland as a boy, photos from his military Ranger days, random flowers and some poetry about life’s beauty.

Well, this St. Patrick’s Day I want to think of his encouragement and grace while his life faded away. We both knew his time was limited. He was born with a genetic disorder of the lungs that took his twin sister ten years earlier and only showed symptoms in him years later. So we made the most of what we were given.

Greg knew how much I loved him like a father but was puzzled as to why I did. To this day, I can not really say why, I just did:) My favorite quote was when he turned to my husband and said, “you got an Irish man drunk, tonight you accomplished something major.” then he went to sleep, lol.

In three days we all shared something that some people never find in this life. It is instances like that one that make me know life has purpose, even if the moments of inspirations are short.

Bless you Greg. May you never “run dry of green ale”.
