On the Muslim celebration of Ramadan, everyone wears their most beautiful clothes. Abdousalam and his sister, Aissa are both wearing indigo infused cloth, so important to the Tuareg, the “blue people” of the desert. Abdou and his family group were occupying the compound of the home we were looking to rent. We invited them to continue living in our driveway as they had been camped out before we came along. The lives of our two families became quite intertwined. We shared in their lives, celebrations and troubles, and they shared in ours.
