The Maltese islands have a significant number of natural caves which were once inhabited by fishermen.
The limestone caves with large flat rocks to clamber about on high up on the headland have fantastic texture. The colours are incredibly beautiful, clear, azure water which is amazingly deep.
The Blue Grotto was used for a scene of the 2004 film Troy, starring Brad Pitt.

On my recent trip to Italy, we were one of the few boats that braved the rough seas to visit the Blue Grotto. Unfortunately the swell was too high and we were unable to go through the small opening. This is a truly beautiful photograph and makes me hope that I return to Italy one day to re visit this enchanting place.

Absolutely gorgeous!!! I love that place!!! So many childhood memories swimming in those caves!!! Especially the one with the sand in the bottom!!! Or the one where ya hand turns blue!!!
