This is magnificent.

....all so beautifully put together… i love the old photos in the background, there is something significant about the fobwatch as my eye is drawn to it again and again, as I survey the image…my eye always comes back to rest on the watch…..like a full circle beginning with this gorgeous old camera….i wonder who’s hands have touched this camera, and what photos they took, the occasions it visited….fascinating and thought-provoking!

Your work is simply amazing!!

I recognised the camera straight away, it was the ‘Nikon’ of the 30’s and 40’s and is probably as equally responsible for recording the history of those decades. A fabulous image of the sort of portability that present 70 and 80 year olds would have drooled over!

This Photograph takes you right back in time acting like a virtual time machine. Great composition and very atmospheric lighting in keeping with the subject.

The scene has been set beautifully Alf! Gracious, look at those negatives…my father used to have drawers of them!! :-)

Once again, you’ve combined all the elements with such artistic precision and done so in a light that makes me think of the way sun shines through cathedral windows….with an importance or significance which has given a great ‘weight’ to this camera. All the touches in this work together perfectly, from the old photos in the background to the pocket watch in the fore. You’ve given such consideration to all of this and yet the viewer can simply look at it and say, “remember when”.

It’s artistic and photographic brilliance Alf.

A fascinating image, selfspeaking, and so well composed, with amazing light. Great composition.

Great pic. I had the opportunity to use a Speed Graphic a few times when I was NCOIC at the post photo lab at Ft. Campbell, KY. I was rooting around in a storage locker where we kept a lot of the old equipment and found it. I took it on a few shoots, but was relieved I still had my trusty old Nikon FtN too (another story). That sucker, with accessories and 4×5 film packs was HEAVY. Got some great shots with it though.

Oh, but the negs….
Glorious things,

Whew…. those celluloids,
Never lost my awe,
The figures almost came to life,
There on the table.
Something about that lifeless frame,
I swear it moves when I turn my back.
Breaks my heart to leave it lay,
But the film…oh, god, it breaks the bank!

Absolute Beautiful photograph Alf, it’s amazing how far we have come in this field with both equipment and styles. But the basic it still there to capture a moment in time as you in this image.

Takes me back to my cadetship at the Ballarat Courier in the late sixties. The photogs, Cocky and Hermann, used Speedgraphics and their noisy flashbulbs. And the magazines they would have to carry (loaded with negative plates).

G’day ALF!

With nostalgia and photographic history dripping from every pixel this fabulous still life tells a great story. I can almost smell the old leather and the dust.
The lighting effect you have applied does a marvellous job and the warm tones enhance the feeling of a past era.
All the props support but do not overwhelm the star attraction although I do admit to zooming in to check out the newspaper story.
I thoroughly enjoy the history of photography and all the old machines and this work of yours adds to the experience.
