Albert Pinkham Ryder, right? He was exhibiting what, about a century ago? And you’ve caught his most gripping eccentricity here as well. As everyone knows, Ryder as great artists go, was a showman. To achieve the most astonishing effects he was unfaithful to virtually every rule of archival preservation.
So by now looking at a Ryder is to watch a slow motion disaster as the chemicals upon his surfaces fight, explode, decompose, and fade at oddly irregular rates (most frequently wood and cardboard if I remember correctly). Hence the emotional sculpturing of his lavishly painted scenes are doing exactly what you’ve captured here Alf… In a stunning representation of late 19th/early 20th century art. Which everyone knows was exactly the time when the curtain of photography was coming down on the great tradition of pictorial representative painting.
This is so thoughtful Alf. Thanks for sharing…

Ted, Thankyou for this amazing comment and critique. Your comments are an inspiration.

spectacular … you’ve discovered one of my all time favorite artists … you know Mortlake Terrace??
tried to insert the image … don’t know if it’ll work … but it’s been a favorite of mine for years … this of yours puts me in mind of it .. the light, the trees. Whereas Mortlake, to me, is late afternoon, your morning image could be its companion piece …
