This baby ground squirrel was one of hundreds that were stalking tourists at the zoo, looking for food. These squirrels are native to that area and are not zoo animals. This is a golden mantled ground squirrel. A thunderstorm passed over and rained for a bit. RaindropsKeepFallingOnMyHead

They hibernate so they are always looking for food. There are plenty of plants for them to eat but people give them cheeseburgers, cotton candy..you name it. Of course, they like the human food better. Thank you, Sean. xoxo

We have thousands of them here. I got some good pictures of baby ones. Over by the mountains, they are just scurrying everywhere. They are very friendly and smart. I saw them chasing baby strollers (trollies) because they could smell the baby formula/food. They are too cute but we really have an over population. I plan to go the canyons again to tomorrow where I can find some chipmunks, as well as the ground squirrels.Thank you very much, Krys. xo

Lori, What a Wonderful Image, Look at how much pleasure this tiny creature gave to all these people, here in the east we call these guys chipmunks , they are one of my absolute favorites .. I think they are the same basically… kudo’s !

Thank you, Rick. This little guy/gal is a golden mantled ground squirrel. We have chipmunks, too. They look alike but the chipmunks have stripes on their faces and are a bit smaller. I hope to get some pictures of them soon. xo
