White-Breasted Nuthatch
Taken with a Canon XSi DSLR with a 300mm lens. I took this picture near Aspen Lake today. They got about a foot of snow yesterday and it was melting today. It made for an interesting shoot. Aspen Lake got its name because of all the aspen trees around it. It is just north of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Shaun Whiteman
Great shot Lori, is this the same as our nuthaches in the UK? They are very difficult to photograph if it is!!
Lori Peters replied
Thank you, Shawn. These woodhatches are probably the same kind that you have in the UK. They are very small and flighty. I think I got this picture because they were off the ground and in the trees. There was about a foot of slushy snow on the ground and they were avoiding it. . This park has many woodhatches.. I appreciate the comment. xo

Lori Peters replied
Thank you so much. This park has a lot of these birds. I didn’t know they were Pygmy Nuthatches. There was snow on the ground that they were trying to avoid. It gave me more chances to capture them in the trees. They are very hard to photograph. I was very lucky. xo
