What a gorgeous house. Nothing like our castles, though. But can I tell you a similar story?
At Glencoe, Scotland, there is a beautiful mansion (now a cottage hospital). It has extensive grounds which include a small man-made lochan, surrounded by Canadian Pines. All this was built and planted, many years ago, by a Scottish nobleman for his Native American wife, so that she wouldn’t be so homesick. This tale has a happy ending… she returned to her homeland and he went with her! After all that expense this was true love. Aaaahh!
Lori Peters replied
What a beautiful story. Can you imagine a man being so unselfish that he go back and live in his wife’s culture to make her happy. i guess that is where Gen.almer messed up. Thank you for the comment and the story. I just go there to take picture’s. It cost’s a king’s ransom to get inside. A cup of tea is $40.

This is great Lori! I have been to Colorado Springs several times and never knew about this. It looks like it may have been remodeled some….... more modern than one built in 1914. It’s beautiful and I’m so glad you added the history lesson. That really adds to the character.
Lori Peters replied
Thank you, Sandy. They keep it restored, for sure. They have several houses on the site that go back to the late 1800’s. it is right by Garden of the Gods. A lot of people don’t know about it becuase it is in a canyon and can’t be seen from any major road. XX

Wow! This is beautiful Lori. It’s very interesting history that I was not aware of. I love the thought of a “castle” rather than “mansion”.
Lori Peters replied
Thank you, Catherine. It is a castle, complete with a moat.

Hope he got a cleaner at a good price, 67 rooms now there’s some work.
Nice pic Lori, great persective…
Lori Peters replied
Thank you, Andrew. i thought people were joking when they said there was a castle here. It costs $40 just for a cup of tea there. That must be how they pay for the cleaning staff now. i just go and climb around in the moat and take pictures.

what a sad history :( but what a beautiful piece of architecture! Have you ever been inside? Can you imagine living in a castle this size? I know, it is small compared to a lot of them but I’d be VERY HAPPY living in this ‘small’ house!!! :))
Lori Peters replied
I feel the same way about my house. It is modest but cozy. I have not been inside. They let me drive around and take pictures for free. There is a fee to go inside any building. The next time I have a freind visit, I will take them there. Just a cup of tea is about $40.00 dollars.

Oh I love this place, been there many times. One of the photography groups I’m with meets there often, International Christian Photographers – good group and great place to meet – I love Colorado Springs.
Lori Peters replied
Hi, Deborah. I love this place, too. It is so close to Garden of the Gods and Rockledge Ranch. It takes the entire day to take photographs. This castle is a hidden treasure. Thank you for the kind comment.

Oh this is so great, castles have always been a special for me. Shame it’s so expensive to get in.

The General may have built his wife her dream home, but I guess he couldnt provide our lovely British weather LOL …..
Great shot of a unique castle Lori …............. :))
Lori Peters replied
Not to mention Indian attacks, bears, mountain lions, etc. The west was hard to endure in those days. I would have left, too. Thank you for the comment. xo
