Four Protagonists
Here’s what I like about this flawed photo. It expresses a range of emotions. The girl in the foreground seems deeply introspective, perhaps in a melancholic way. She staring, but not without. She’s thinking, oblivious to all around her. The young man on the left is mesmerized by her. He has no chance. Both are oblivious to the May December passion taking place between them. The passionate couple is oblivious to all but each other, lost in a delicious moment, perhaps “happy” is not too strong a word. Longing, introspection, melancholy, sexuality, romance all occurring at the same moment in time, in the same space. A few meters separates the actors. It might as well be light years. I empathize with the young man. I too have longed in vain. I envy the couple kissing, for once I too kissed. I worry about the girl. So fashionably dressed, yet so oblivious to any attention she might draw. She looks without looking. She bites her scarf. She is too inward dwelling to escape my concern.
Ann Palframan
What a complex range of emotion in this capture…human drama is fascinating. I feel like a voyeur viewing this. Would she (girl in foreground) find his attentions flattering or an invasion / irritation? Compelleing image, Kevin.
Mary Ann Reilly
Kevin, this has set me on a new course. Love the sense of narrative in all your work, but this is so heightened. I’m out today with my camera. Thanks. BTW: What happens to the story if they are one family (newly blended)?
Peggy Sue Harr...
This is brilliant .. photographically, emotionally, literally .. flawed perfection
Steve Cozart
Loving this too! So many times, while “people-watching” I see subsets of this complete image. Terrific job at catching “the moment”.
Cora Wandel

Thank you Lois. Yes, all the time, life being lived around us. Really pretty wonderful, isn’t it?

This is what a real photography is about, this is a real documentary masterpiece, and in-depth analysis of the scene in your writing. I am mesmerised..
UnEasy replied
Thank you Tatiana. Yes, you put it so well. People. So vulnerable. We are all so very much alike – across time, across continents. Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment.
jacqleen
I LOVEEEEEE this…there is so much going on here….the New LOVE…the one who is missing hers…and the one who thinks has found his….......Just LOVE this…what Stories can be said or imagined and all that from a single image!
wow…YOU are truly talented…like I said before…LOVE the way YOU see your life around YOU! xx
jacqleen
LOL….OMG…I just read your little writing…OOPS..sorry, I guess I was too busy LOOKING at your image…I’m so visiual that I do forget to read the words :))) LOL
still…...I’m glad that I saw all that without YOUR description LOL :)))))) xx
UnEasy replied
Ah, you do know what it’s all about – the purely compositional vs. those that invite us to envision a story behind the image. I loved what you saw. I’m so happy the image lent itself to your imaginings – I think a result like that satisfies me more than anything. Thank you very, very much jacqleen.
Tatiana R
Cool! Yes, great photo, and the best thing about it is that perhaps there are only very few on this planet that didn’t experience being in every of these situations at different times of their lives, sometimes the line to cross from one state to another very fine one. :-))
UnEasy replied
Thanks Tatiana – I hadn’t thought of that – what you just mentioned – that each actor in this drama has in the past or will in the future experience the other roles. The young man may indeed one day be locked in an embrace. They couple may part, and long again. The young girl…the one who is too inward dwelling to escape my concern, she…

Could not go past this exceptional image! No flaw in this! xoxox
Stephen Thomas
Great story photo!
Mojca Savicki
This is awesome…i know how you like when the moment is captured. Here, it is your perfect shot, you pulled the trigger, LOL, in the right second! Shots like this can’t be planned and this is what is wonderful about them :)))...
Martina Fagan
Brilliant on alot of different levels what a cool shot:)
CarmenHolly
This is a great capture of the moment..it gives us all something to ponder. I see the girl in the front…she may have feelings for the guy kissing the Blonde..the other guy watching her knows this..yes..he has feelings for her…to me he looks like he feels her pain. Thanks for sharing this..it was interesting to read your take of the captured moment.
UnEasy replied
Thanks so much CarmenHolly. It’s one of my favorites. And we are all free to imagine what was going on. Thanks for taking the time to write such an insightful comment.
Andrew Makowi...
Such a great photo of people, showing all these different aspects of humanity in the one shot. We look at them and imagine all sorts of things about the people.
It must be inbuilt in us that we find shots of people in unguarded moments so fascinating. A really lovely picture.
melissarwilson
A storm of emotion! Is it flawed? I’m sure you are not speaking along technical lines. Yes, let’s talk of humans and the nature of love. This is a very real and very raw capture.
UnEasy replied
The ‘flaw’ was a bow to zen, and I’m not surprised you picked it up Melissa.
linaji
I am choosing not to read your comment first.. but the title!!! Oh my!! What you have captured here is amazing… I see…
the minuet the thought of desire arises with the man looking at the unassuming woman
and then in a higer point of reference the consummation of said desire.. all in a dream mode of the slight blurr of the shot.
Like rapid fire this is thrilling work.. you have the luck of a wonderful photographer and the treatment .. the depth of color is passionate.. although I am curious how this would translate in B&W..
UnEasy replied
For me, the ‘authenticity’ of the moment demanded I not mine it for art. Rather, human emotions fascinate me, and I thought just leave it alone. The beauty is in the girl biting the scarf, the intense gaze of the young man. Thank you so very much linaji for your wonderful comment. You are a thinker of supernova intensity.
linaji
Now.. I have read.. and yes I see where you see from your own experience how this photo translates to you.. that is why I like to look first read later.. although you and I agree on the amazing occurrence all in a second all that is to be examined.. I find he may have the luck and she is just being alluring as we are taught.. he may be a bit plain looking but when he opens his mouth he may be so exciting and amazing that Boy indeed Gets Girl!
my world is about getting what we want.. because we are capable of all that.. we are.

This is such an amazing image. Of course your words guide us around and add to the image… they are wonderfully written… but the power is there in this less than flawed image anyway… congratulations on such a beautiful piece. As artists we are truly blessed to be able to see what others often miss… you have excelled in this sense… thank you for sharing… : )

UnEasy replied
Thanks again walele :) This is one of my all-time favorites for a candid street shot (though it was taken in the Luxembourg Gardens in Paris). I only had a second, and it wasn’t enough time to tweak the settings, or even let the autofocus settle down :)
izzybeth
What a wonder of a photo. Your observation is perfect.

Fabulous human interaction. Is the blonde woman his girlfriend? his mistress? He seems intent on this reunion. His partner is nearly reticent. The young woman is waiting in vain, nervous for her party to arrive. The young man anticipates a move if her party doesn’t show. It is capture of forwards and backwards, all timings of the heart. Very well caught indeed!
UnEasy replied
Thanks very much Marian :) I’m glad the photo invited you to imagine a story as well. There can be no higher compliment. Thanks very much :)))
mimi yoon
utmostly delicious moment…. love this shot and the passion that’s captured in it…. : )

Thanks mimi – I bumbled across this scene while returning home from the Luxembourg Gardens. I only had a second, not time enough to focus or adjust the settings, but I was pleased with the substance – thanks so much

AWESOME capture. It’s a whole movie in one frame, isn’t it? Great story telling. This is one of those images which actually does paint a thousand words! Well done, Kevin. Instant fave.
UnEasy
“It’s a whole movie in one frame, isn’t it?” Great way to characterize it Autumn :) Thanks so much for your insight :)))
lianne
If you could not write a poem…you certainly can write an interpretation of an image that is pure poetry in its expression. I must agree with your friend above that this is an entire movie in one frame – and you have both captured and explained it beautifully.

Such a killer shot UnEasy! Reading through your thoughts on it is terrific too as you dissect the shot so nicely, and I especially am happy we came to a similar conclusion. This is a great shot. Fave it a few times for me!
UnEasy replied
Thanks so very much rodeorose :) I was looking through your portfolio earlier, and loved it. I dwelled for awhile on that shot of the wall in Dubrovnik, when it was 35 degrees. I loved your description of that moment. I must go back and leave some comments on your wonderful work in a bit :)))

Thank you very much Graham :) Sorry I missed this earlier :)

This is brilliant beyond words. So many people would be like the girl, oblivious to what is around them but you have really seen and captured the different emotions happening between many different people in one image. Fanbloodytastic I say! Love this so much :)
