Cardinals (including this one) are larger than a sparrow but smaller than a bluejay or blackbird. Probably only looks large because it’s a closeup. They are fast and this one was just about to take flight!

This is an extraordinary image, the clarity and details of this beautiful bird’s beak and feathers with sharp focus on his eye is amazing. I love the natural light illuminating his rich scarlet red plumage and the DOF is wonderful!! It is one of the best photographs of a Red Cardinal I have ever seen.
