the end of the continents

i stood at the edge,
letting all that is coming
to meet me head on,
awaiting the day
when all the continents are gone
when all the land has become one.

trouble will not find me here,
facing out to sea,
bent beneath the air that will crush me,
eventually, gradually.

the stars will be beautiful tonight,
above the great weighted cloud,
above those clouds they will shine,
with no regard for the presence of my eyes.

i feel my heartbeat,
run my fingers up my ribs,
blood thick with memories,
moving through me.

i consider the goodbyes,
and how those beautiful stars will shine,
thankful for this, my separate life
the continents shift,
and all will be well, for a time.

the end of the continents
