there is no greater weight

four shoulders bore your weight,
the quiet dignity
would carry you home,
the air rests when the men bow,
and my cheeks glisten.

the blooms just settle in their
own quiet beauty
as a nephew reads out
a soft eulogy,
gently as the sun rises
so heads hang silent.

i sat before in this seat,
in the years gone,
when you were saying
farewell to Sonny,
the space where you sat is now empty

for the wishes have been granted.

there is no greater weight
