evolution IX

I watched you struggle, with your inside out umbrella
pulled up as if to heaven,
carried off without farewell.

from the silent inside side
it appeared calm
with me on wheels
moving by.

heads down into the wind,
the herd moved on in sync
the heat risen from the winter skin
they wear on days like this.

from the inside, me observer
is the dry weather
left over, just the residue of summer.

yet, if I were an eagle, or a whale
I would be happier
to watch this species fail,

but I am one, and none of the above
it is tuned into me, to face the arrival,
to wish for survival.
