night

nighttime brought rain,
slickened the slates,
and dampened down the dust.

while I was away,
we moved silently
through space.

what takes place,
in the hidden hours,
the lost hours?

nighttime brought rain,
it did not bring calm,
in troubled places.

in troubled times,
where broken babies cry,
men and women
are made to die,
in troubled places,
in troubled times.

I slept through the rain,
nighttime blackened
out the lights again.

I woke to clean air,
peaceful air,
and yet I’m not at peace,
I am sharing the pain,
the pain that grows in daylight
after nighttime.

Artist's Description

seems to be such a lot of suffering. I know there’ll always be suffering, but sometimes, most times, it seems so unnecessary, and so often could be avoided. one of our greatest abilities could be the ability to ease suffering, wherever we find it.
