turning in for the night

governments rise,
governments fall,
sweet rain runs on someone’s window
someone’s breakfast tea is made.

and I am turning in the for night,
with some kind of god at my side,
who does not judge the tears in my eyes,
or dwell on the shape of my heart.

in another place you are waking,
different places,
sun is rising.
tune in the news on the radio.

I am turning in for the night,
the summer has passed,
I am never putting your memory back,
I want you live with me.

to stay with me.

I remember a face and lips from the past,
sitting under a streetlight in my car,
hands all fingers and thumbs,
couldn’t get it undone,

and I sometimes catch the smell,
of your coat and the sound of your voice,
moonlight and the distant dawn.

I am turning in for the night,
all memories, sleep the clock with me,
some good, some bad, some forgotten,
they will partner me,
should i ever reach bottom,
and partner me when I head to the top,

all parts of me feel them,
all parts of me feel them.
