the recent past

slipping by,
mercurial months
and hours,
tick and resonate,
explode and then
die.

and you , along with me,
belong always
in the recent past.

there is no ‘now’.
it has flown
and left not even a fingerprint
to let us know.

we were engaged,
locked in,
focussed on the prize,
that we gazed on,
slipping
slipping by.

we can casually smile,
gently raise our ribcage to laugh,
we know there is no more ‘now’
and that there never was,
it was always the recent past.

GREAT perspective. Try imagining that you’ve captured the “now”, that you could somehow isolate an instant and know you were in it. That can drive anyone crazy =D I love how you brought your thoughts to life here.

  • it is a conundrum trying to live in the present! :) glad you liked it…
