Captured just east of Headingly, Manitoba, Canada.

Bohemian Waxwing Bombycilla garrulus..81/4 in. (21cm)..Similiar to the Cedar waxwing (yellow tip on tail), but larger and grayer, with no yellow on their belly. Wings with strong white, or white and yellow markings, warmer brown to face..Note: deep rusty undertail coverts (white in cedar waxwings). The bohemian waxwing got its name not only for the red waxy tips on mature feathers, but also for its bohemian behavior. They often travel in large normadic flocks…Shape in-flight very starling-like.

Voice Zreee, rougher than the thin note of the cedar waxwing…

Habitat: In summer, boreal forests, muskeg; In winter widespread in search of berries, especially in towns where plantings fruiting trees can attract them.

A self taught amateur photographer who resides in beautiful Winnipeg, Manitoba, which is a prairie city in the center of Canada. My dear wife Marg and I have been married for 52 years, and we have 2 married daughters and 3 grandchildren to share our busy lives.I love to read, practice photography, spend time with my family, play around on the computer, and volunteer a lot of my time at our local Nature Center, where I serve as an interpreter for kids programs.
