The pronghorn (Antiocapra Americana) the last surviving species of its family, is only found in Western North America. Both males and females have horns with a bony core surrounded by horny sheath. Males have slightly more ornate horns. These horns, which are shed annually are different from the bony antlers of deer, caribou and moose, and the non-shedding horns of goats, sheep, cattle, bison and musk ox. Pronghorn browse in groups, and sometimes in large herds. They are wary of predators. Farms, roads and fences have partionted and replaced original habitat.

Info gleaned from a plaque at the Museum.

This is very interesting to me Larry. On one of my trips to Colorado to visit my mother last year I took a different route out of my way to LaBarge, Wyoming to see an old diner that had been moved out there from, of all places New York…Anyway I took some pic. of some Antelope that I thought were quite unusual, mainly because of the markings on their long noses. I think I found some pronghorn….I will find a picture and put it up…..great shot and information Larry. Di
