Captured in the marsh, at Oak Hammock Marsh north of Stony Mountain, Manitoba, Canada….I could not believe my eyes, when this little fellow came right out of the grass and actually looked at me for a few minutes…Better seen enlarged HERE BTW.

Mink (mustela vison)
Length: head and body, 12 – 20 in; tail 5 – 9in.
What to look for: long, slim body; fur dark red-brown, except for small pale area on the chin and scattered white spots on the underside.
Habitat: along rivers, streams, and lakes, and occasionally in marshes. They are never far from water.

    Great capture, though I understand that they can be quite viscious, so it is as well that you did not try to stroke it! Mink are not natural in the British Isles. Unfortunately some years ago a well intentioned animal rights person realeased large numbers of them from a mink farm into the wild, as a result of which our native water vole has been displaced. I am dead against fur for fashion and all forms of animal cruelty, but this was not a wise action. All that has resulted is that another creature has been placed at risk.
