Husky the Muskie…

This huge replica fish is built of wood, steel and fiberglass, stands 13 m (40 feet) high and weighs close to 2112 pounds.

Husky is a symbol for the Lake of the Woods where some of North America’s best muskie fishing may be had. Husky the Muskie is located at McLeod Park in Kenora, Ontario, Canada….

Kenora originally settled as a trading and missionary town called Rat Portage, with the first building belonging to the Hudson’s Bay Company. The name Rat Portage came from the native name for the area. In 1836 a fur-trading post was established by the Hudson’s Bay Company, and the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway in the 1880’s allowed the town to prosper.

Rat Portage transformed into Kenora after amalgamating with neighbouring townships of Keewatin and Norman. Kenora formed from the first two letters of each area: KEewatin, NOrman, and RAt Portage. In 2000 Kenora officially became a city.

One of my fondest memories is a trip from Kenora to Fort Frances and we stopped to swim in Lake Of The Woods six times. That was a great day. Nice shot Larry.

  • Thanks Al, I have to admit Al, Kenora is one of my all time favorite places to visit…simply a photographer’s delight.
