Location: This was taken locally right in my neigborhood in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Ring Billed Gull…Adults are silvery gray on the back, white on head, tail and under parts. Similar to the Herring Gull but smaller, with greenish-yellow legs and feet, and with a narrow black ring around the bill. Young birds are mottled brown, and have a narrow blackish tail band, and flesh colored legs. Acquires adult plumage in three years.
Voice: Loud raucous mewing cries, like that of Herring Gull, but higher pitched.
Range: Breeds in the Northwest (locally south to California), northern Great Plains and the southern Prairie Provinces of Canada. Also in the Great Lakes region, Canadian Maritimes and the northern New England states…basically where there are large lakes and rivers in the area.
They nest in colonies, often with other gulls or terns, usually on islands in lakes and rivers.
