Winnipeg officially opened the WORLDS longest skating trail last winter.. Thousands of Winnipegger’s laced on the skates on this day to skate the trails on our river system. The skating trail measuring 8.54 kilometres (5.33 miles), will surpass the previous Guinness World record set on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa. The skating trail starts on the Red River where it loops to Whittier Park and on to the Norwood Bridge. It extends on down the Assiniboine River and winds up at Omand’s Creek near the Polo Park Shopping Center.

A self taught amateur photographer who resides in beautiful Winnipeg, Manitoba, which is a prairie city in the center of Canada. My dear wife Marg and I have been married for 52 years, and we have 2 married daughters and 3 grandchildren to share our busy lives.I love to read, practice photography, spend time with my family, play around on the computer, and volunteer a lot of my time at our local Nature Center, where I serve as an interpreter for kids programs.

Wow, I completely forgot about that and I was wondering where to go to enjoy such a beautiful day. Gorgeous shot Larry.

  • Thanks Teresa, I took this from the Midtown bridge, as my daughter Lisa, works near there. I know you can enter the ice level from the Forks, but I believe also from all the bridges as well…Thanks for your interest.

I thought the longes skate trail was Portage.
Oh, you don’t allow vehicles on this one.
I like the way the trail curves off into the distance making you think it goes on forevery. Good point of view.

  • Thanks Stan, I appreciate your comments, perhaps you were thinking of the TransCanada Trail…All the best in 2009 my friend
