Just gorgeous! At a glance I’d say a type of Argiope spider…not sure where you’re located but I know Australia has several of this species…I THINK more then anywhere else on Earth

  • :))))) Very Clever Carla, backyard Brisbane Queensland, Australia :)

A member of the Argiope orb weaver spiders…can you tell us where this was photographed so we can narrow the search for it’s ID? Thanx so much…I find these SPECTACULAR and wish we had more here in the US. Australia I think has the most amount of species in this family…

oops…just saw your reply months ago..lol
Do you remember if she/he had an extremely long body? I’ve passed up 9 species so far without any future results…it’s POSSIBLE this is one of the recently discovered/new to science species…..

  • really? that’s interesting…yes it did have a long body, Carla.

This is gonna tease me til I can find it….I KNOW what it is…just can’t find a corosponding image to help. In my head I’m seeing a long rectangular body….the web is more squarish with rectangular/squarish segments….no zig/zag that is often seen with this group of spiders…….argh. I’ll get it…there’s also a group on here for Arachnids…maybe someone there can click the memory
