Blanket Of Love

Oil Pastels (Original Sold)

Concept: “If I were an owl, I will cover you with my wings on a cold winter night.” This is a piece I did many years ago, I did a mini series of what it would be like and what I would like to do if I were an owl :D So over here,I wanted to be a useful owl and make my wings into a colourful quilt and cover those in need of love and warmth.

Blanket Of Love belongs to the following groups:

Birds and Creatures of Flight, Childhood, Cutest of the Cute, Live, Love, Dream: , Singapore, The Birds, Toys and Puppets and Vibrant and Vivid Color

Your work is beautiful and thought-provoking. It is very gentle, a stark contrast to the hard world sometimes find ourselves facing.

  • udonchow replied

Thank you lallymac, that’s a beautiful comment….the world is indeed a harsh place to live in, so let’s not make it any harsher, I hope art can be one of the ways to bring more smiles and hope to people’s hearts :D

The oil pastels give a very different quality than your acrylic work. They’re both wonderful techniques for you. In this piece, the pastel accompanies the child motif brilliantly… and I do mean brilliant in all its shades of meaning, both by color intensity, and in the way you’ve succeeded in reflecting childhood expression. Though your work is artistically mature, the style of this piece beckons to crayons in young hands, something acrylics may not have pulled off in the same way. The vegetables, fruit, tree, musical notation, smiling child in the comfort of warm wings make a beautiful and homey quilt of both discovery and protection. And that slice of moon!

  • udonchow replied

Thank you Moltencrayons! :D I have always felt extremely comfortable with crayons because I feel very spontaneous and creative every time I use them…no matter how old I am, I still have a soft spot for crayon drawings…especially those done by children. I once went to a nice little boutique motel in Chiang Mai…the owner put up drawings of her daughter, looking at the paintings, she must be less than 10 years old…but those drawings were so beautiful and so precious that I felt like taking some home with me! :D
