Portrait painter Pieter Zaadstra began to learn his craft as a child from his father, a painter in the Amsterdam cellars of the School of den Hague. After migrating to Australia and adapting his techniques to the new Australian light, Pieter won numerous art awards and made a name as a portrait painter with sitters such as Nobel Laureate Sir Mark Oliphant and leading business identities.

Pieter’s first two books are the well known “Our Australian Kelpie” and “Flight of the Black Cockatoo”. He moved to Tasmania in 2004 after being commissioned to author and illustrate several books about Tasmanian lifestyle and landscape. His first Tasmanian book “The Artist & the Fly Fisher” was published in 2007. He has just published “Mount Gambier – an Essay in Art” – December 2009. His newest art book “Tamar Valley – an Artist’s Journal” will be launched on 3rd June 2010.
