Cobble landing at Filey in April. While the rest of the UK was experiencing a heat wave Filey had a sea fret. For those who don’t know this is a mist that comes off the sea and can last for days and the temperature plummets. The east coast is particularly susceptible to them. This photograph shows the resilience of the British Holiday maker, people were still on the beach, some brave souls even in the sea, some had full winter apparel while other were determined to wear shorts and tee shirts.

Oh my word Colin, you have taken me back to being 5 years old, we used to holiday just up The Ravine and watched the cobbles being towed on and off the beach. There was a shell fish cabin just behind the boats. Instant favourite here!

  • Cheers John, the stalls are still there. Sorry for the late reply!

a really interesting picture colin … the ones in tee-shirts and shorts were English, the ones with winter apparel were Australian… I had to marvel at the English determination to get out there and ‘carry on as usual’, when I was over there, regardless of weather!

  • Thanks Carol. I thinkk it has a lot to do with the English weather. The saying goes…‘If you don’t like the weather now wait five minutes’. Sorry for the late reply!

An amazing weather phenomenon, Colin. Great capture! I think Eastern Ontario’s been in a “sea fret” for the past month – even though the sea’s about 14 hours away! :o)

  • Cheers Mike appreciated. Sorry for the late reply!

A superb composition and image mate. I like how the cobles still loom out large and add great presence to the scene.

  • Many thanks Sam. Sorry for the late reply!
