Detail of Door tiling
One of my favourite buildings in Leeds, I work just across the way and can admire it every day. Built in 1878 as a warehouse and cloth cutting works for Sir John Barran, 1st baronet, lord mayor and liberal MP from 1876-1885. It is a Grade II* listed building, designed by Thomas Ambler in an ornate Hispano-Moorish style. The building was extensively altered and restored in 1976 with a wholly new interior. The building was saved from demolition, the castellations and minarets, originally terracotta, had been removed and are now fibreglass reproductions
