BY THE RIVER

When everyone was asleep
Out of her bed she would creep
Take her doll and hold her tight
Going where the world seemed so right
She loved all the morning hues
The damp feeling on her shoes
The calmness of the water
She was more than just a daughter
In her soul she was the child
Of the river .. a little wild
Running through trees
Enjoying the soft breeze
The light of the sun shone red
And the leaves encircled her head
Like the halo of an angel so sweet
Being by the river such a treat
There was a morning haze
Hues of pink, brown, red and grays
Such joy could only be known
When she was all alone
No rules or restrictions
Never an admonition
She could run free
With her little dolly
She was a little child
Who just sat awhile

  • Angela, Thank you so much…I just loved this one…everyone sees
something different when looking at it since it is abstract but I saw
the form of a little girl holding a doll…Sally xxoo

Can just picture the scene. Used to walk out alone myself when I was younger. Not by a river just in the woods. Wonderfully written.

  • Wayne, Saw this abstract art..my poet’s eye sees a little girl
walking away from the river holding a doll..and that’s how this
poem was born…Thank you so much.. Sally xxoo
