HOMELESS

There are so many homeless in the United States
and throughout the world…their lives have become
hopeless … their plight is a sad one. Please don’t
shun them … if you can … please help them …

I was extremely touched yesterday by H M
Bascom’s(H M Bascom) amazing video and Jay’s awesome
voice. After watching and listening, I wrote this
poem.

trudging through muddy waters
legs tired and worn
wondering why life is so hard
wondering why he was born
looking for answers
but his search went no where
seems like life has left him behind
with no one to care
homeless like so many others
wanting warmth and stability
life was so easy once
now he’s on his knees
begging for a dollar
for a little something to eat
people shun and laugh at him
worn and tattered shoes on his feet
soup kitchens now closed
no where to get a meal
why did this happen to him
why did he get a raw deal
lying in an alley
disheveled and afraid
his time is almost over
music no longer played

So sad but true. Very well expressed here, Sally. When I see them, I always wonder at their life… What has happened to bring them to this place?

Wow, great poem Sally. Homelessness is a tragedy that our Country (for the most part) treats as an embarrassment. :-( Thank you for your excellent, compassionate words.

This is so true, and written with such compassion.
I have bordered on homelessness a few times, so this poem penetrates me.

It is one of the worst feelings, the worst situations in life….to be homeless….to be relying on others for small change to buy food. Great poem Sal. xx

Same story all over the world… Our new Prime Minister said he would half the homeless rate by 2020, then pulled back from it when the economy turned down.. 8 million alocated for Indigenous housing in the Northern Territory in last years budget, and a year later not one hous built….. so many vacant and abandoned buildings and homes that could be turned into secure homeless shelters, but politicians lack the will…

It is one of the saddest things to see someone make a bed on a sidewalk or under a highway over pass. Government, organizations and individuals help but it’s not enough. Government programs keep people in these situations because not enough help is offered to get out…then there is the other side of the coin where many homeless are mentally ill. They can’t be forced into help or homes so they are lost in society. If we can do no more than offer a sandwich and a dollar, it is more than most do!

    Excellent write.

truthfully sad. almost unbareible to read. I see it every day here in Cally. All over evey city we are around. Sad but I can’t even help, I am one foot out the door myself. Wish I could help, Maybe oneday when I am better I will help ONE person at least break free. Very sad, I saw it happen to an artist couple on AW about 3 years ago. They lost everything and were living on the beach. Can even imagine what that would be like. Wonderful writings… as always Sally girl xoxoxoxoxoxxoo
