i’ve hidden in the closet
my pain is in my first drawer
next to my underwear
the pieces of my heart
are in an old hatbox
but the skeletons I hide
keep rising from the dead
they clank and clank
as they walk my rooms
i hear their laughs
enjoying my heartbreak
they dance on my bed
when i am sleeping
they poke at my eyes
staring at me with the deep
dark sockets of eyes
disintegrated into dust
they pull the pillows
from under my head
listening to my sobbing
cries of rejection
they walk together
as if they own me
those damn skeletons
yet, who would i have
without them?

OMG I love this more than I can say, Sally. Beyond anything you’ve done – so much that I have loved – I adore this. A masterpiece, my friend, of word and form, of honesty and emotion. I’ll read this one a hundred times! xox P.S. – I have no idea how I missed this either!
