PRIDE & PREJUDICE

he is black
he is proud
stands out
in a crowd
his dredlocks long
eyes so dark
a soul so pure
not even one mark
his loves his wife
adores his child
his manner of speech
is oh so mild
walks with shoulders
held erect
a man of strength
always direct
PRIDE

there are those that feel
black is black
white is white
turn away—don’t look back
they speak to him
without respect
when he answers
it’s what do you expect
your skin is different
than mine
don’t stand here
get to the end of the line
his pride stays strong
prejudice rears its ugly head
oh how sad
humanity is dead
