Memories Come and Go
The aged await for the chance
To tell of their adventures
And their loves and romance

Just for someone to sit awhile
And listen while they talk
Of their life’s many turns
And of its very long walk

Just give them a smile
Sit and listen
Their look will change
Eyes will glisten

With baited breath
They become excited
That their words
You have invited

Friendships made
With people met
Those they loved
That they cannot forget

Weddings, births
Of each child
Those now grown
They only see once in awhile

Husbands or wives
Now in the great beyond
Wishing they could come back
If only they had a magic wand

Famous people
Who passed their way
Things so different
In their day

So much to say
So much they know
Listen awhile
While Memories Come & Go

Dear Sally, what a depth of mature understanding, true empathy for those who have lived long and the books in their minds sit behind closed covers, speckled with dust and cobwebs , as their minds, attuned to the distant past cries out to tell their tales, a book unwritten..it is so easy to talk to the elderly and they have much history to tell
    well written indeed
