Grandma Lena

The kitchen smelled of cupcakes
With chocolate frosting and sprinkles
Grandma Lena stood there all beautiful
With her wisdom wrinkles

Rolling out dough
For a blueberry pie
No one could have felt
As lucky as I

We were alone
For the day she was just mine
My sisters weren’t around
For the very first time

There were fragrances
Of all of her treats
Cinammon and Vanilla
Rows of cookies on sheets

I loved to just watch her
Her hands were weathered with age
With her Italian accent
She spoke like a sage

The kitchen was filled
With every delight
For me to take home
That very night

This is a memory
Of when I was a little girl
Tall and skinny
With long blonde curls

When I think of that day
I can still smell the sweet scent
Like Angels flying about
Heaven sent

Grandma Lena has long left us
I’m sorry to say
In my heart
I will always remember that day

A day of happiness
And being a child
Being with Grandma Lena
So warm and mild

Grandma Lena
